Community Type: tidal freshwater marsh
General Vegetation/Habitat Description: Broad, Nuphar advena dominated marsh located to the S of Rt. 44 at the border of West Deptford and Paulsboro on Mantua Creek. Other species with lesser amounts, on slightly higher ground, include Peltandra virginica, Bidens sp., Impatiens sp., Polygonum sp., and Lythrum salicaria. Marsh is crossed by Rt. 44 - it appears to have the same composition upstream and downstream of the road.
Community Description: Fresh water tidal marsh along Mantua Creek, south of railroad crossing. Dominant plant is Nuphar advena, with just a small amount of Peltandra virginica, mostly along edge, by the road. Marsh is crossed by Rt. 44 and by interstate 295, and a railroad track runs along its northern edge, but other than that, it seems little disturbed - no ditching, filling or obvious trash dumping. Site is obviously tidal.
