Community Type: tidal freshwater marsh
General Vegetation/Habitat Description: Graminoid-dominated tidal marsh located between fen to the NW and the Manumuskin River. Patches of graminoids Zizania, Scirpus validus, Phragmites and (non-graminoid) Typha occur in patches. Often, emergents (Peltandra, Pontederia, Nuphar, Orontium) are found beneath. On occasional low hummocks, more terrestrial forbs (Lycopus, Aster Rhexia) occur. Soil is deep black muck which becomes softer and deeper toward the river. Marsh is tidally influenced. Some debris is found from flooding. No disturbance.
Community Description: Fresh water tidal marsh located between the river and the poor fen. Marsh is dominated by graminoids, especially Zizania aquatica. Plot is located at the landward edge where the substrate is fairly firm. Moving toward the river, the muck becomes deeper and unnavigable. Soil is deep muck. Evidence of flooding is seen - small piles of debris and broken stems.
