Community Type: tidal freshwater marsh
General Vegetation/Habitat Description / Community Description: Extensive fresh water tidal marshes along Raccoon Creek - dominant species is Nuphar advena but there are large patches of Peltandra virginica and Typha angustifolia. There is Phragmites around the edges. There are large areas of sparsely vegetated mud. Sagittaria subulata occurs in some abundance on these muddy patches. Site is obviously tidal. Marsh is bordered by Rt 130 and is crossed by a railroad. Railroad is on a gravel causeway. Local area is partly built-up with commercial development. Other than the railroad, there is little obvious disturbance to the marsh - no ditches, filling or dumping.
