Community Type: tidal brackish marsh
Community Description: Tall, dense Phragmites dominates the marsh. To the SW lies a narrow band of upland - grading into mesic forest. The forest is a buffer between the marsh and a densely populated apartment complex which lies on higher ground at the confluence of the South River and Tennents Brook. Besides water marks on stems, there are no signs of community processes. Soil is deep black muck. No sign of recent disturbance, but clearing the land (to build apartments) probably caused some filling of the marsh through runoff and erosion.
Fauna: muskrat
