Community Type: tidal brackish marsh
Community Description: Brackish marsh bordered by copses of shrubs and trees to the north, a road (and Phragmites marsh beyond) to the east, and Alloway Creek to the south. The lower part of the marsh, closest to Alloway Creek is dominated by tall Spartina alterniflora. The upper marsh, nearest to the tree/shrub line has a mixture of co-dominant graminoids (Spartina alterniflora, S. cynosuroides, Scirpus pungens, S. robustus, S. validus) and forbs (Typha spp., Amaranthus cannabinus, Polygonum composites). Soil appears to be thin muck over a fibric peat layer (poorly decomposed litter/duff from previous seasons) and is firm except for very muddy small channels and potholes. Vegetation is dense and multi-layered. There is no evidence of recent disturbance.
