Community Type: tidal brackish marsh
Community Description: Brackish tidal marsh lying to the south of Rt. 9 and to the east of Job's Creek. Job's Creek runs into the Bass River. The marsh is a mosaic of large patches of Spartina patens, Distichlis spicata, and Scirpus americanus, with some blending of species in transition zones. Spartina cynosuroides patches are found along some of the creek and ditch margins. On slightly higher ground, Phragmites may dominate. A copse of red cedars on a small bump in the landscape is surrounded by Panicum virgatum. Forbs are scattered throughout most of the area, the most prevalent being Samolus parviflorus, others include Sabatia dodecandra and Lythrum lineare. Some Cladium mariscoides is present along upper edges. Small piles of vegetation debris indicate occasional flooding/higher tides. Soil is mucky peat. No recent disturbance.
