Community Type: tidal brackish marsh
Community Description: Brackish tidal marsh dominated by the tall form of Spartina alterniflora. This section of marsh is located S of the E-W running Sluice Creek. Marsh is crossed by Rt. 657 to the W and is bordered by swampy woods to the S. Except for the obvious presence of the road, the marsh appears undisturbed. This section does not appear to be ditched. The tall form of S. alterniflora, covers more than 80% of the marsh. S. cynosuroides forms small patches where the elevation is slightly higher. Amaranthus cannabinus is scattered throuoghout as is Aster tenuifolius - Phragmites lines the edges along the wood edge and the bridge causeway. Area is flooded at this time (high tide). Remnants of higher tides (trash and wrack) are seen along the upper edges of the marsh.
