Observation Narrative ? Community Type: tidal brackish marsh Community Description: Graminoid-dominated brackish marsh located between Gibson Creek and a dike and impoundment at Tuckahoe WMA. Diversity is low, and the area is heavily invaded by Phragmites australis. Topography is slightly hummocky and there are numerous muskrat houses in the area. Areas slightly higher in elevation (<1') are dominated by Spartina cynosuroides, Spartina patens, Distichlis spicata, and Scirpus robustus (with Phragmites). Lower areas are dominated by Spartina alterniflora. No forbs are noted. Trash deposited at the base of the dike is evidence of flooding. No recent disturbance is evident. Plot was laid out on higher ground.
