Community Type: tidal brackish marsh
Community Description: High brackish tidal marsh with a couple of slightly elevated "islands" of slightly higher ground adjacent to Stow Creek. Marsh in this area is almost all Phragmites except on the "islands", which have a mixture of shrubs and forbs on them including Baccharis halimifolia, small Liquidambar styraciflua, Euthamia graminifolia, Panicum scoparium and Andropogon virginicus. Creek winds through the marsh to the W and E. To the west, the marsh grades into mostly Spartina alterniflora and Amaranthus cannabinus, brackish marsh, then into some patches of Spartina patens. At this site, Phragmites has been burnt, probably last year. The Phragmites on the opposite side of the creek is much taller and appears thicker. This area is probably intermittently flooded along the upper reaches, rather then flooded daily.
