Observation Narrative |
Community Type: interdunal swale
General Description: Dry sandy dunes covered by either dense, wind-pruned shrubs, or Hudsonia tomentosa in some of the hollows. Dominant spp. near the wetland are Acer rubrum, Vaccinium corymbosum, Ilex opaca, Prunus serotina, Baccharis halimifolia and Amelanchier canadensis. Toward the dryer top of the dune, Juniperus virginiana, Morella pennsylvanica and Prunus serotina may dominate. No disturbance recently. Lots of Smilax rotundifolia growing on top of shrubs.
Community Description: East-west linear depression with several inches of standing water over a layer of muck and then sand. Terrain is hummocky. Dominated by Hibiscus moscheutos, Decodon verticillatus, Toxicodendrom radicans and Thelypteris palustris. Other dominant species include Osmunda cinnamomea, Woodwardia virginica and Rosa palustris. Land rises steeply to the S. No recent diturbance. Lot is graded so this wetland probably does not get runoff from the parking lot.
