Observation Narrative ? Community Type: interdunal swale General Description: Oval opening in a thick shrub copse. The ground is minutely lower than the surrounding shrub thicket. The opening is surrounded by Vaccinium corymbosum (85%) and Acer rubrum (15%) with a little Smilax rotundifolia. Brown, fine-textured moss covers the ground where not vegetated. Lycopodium appressum (55%) dominates with Vaccinium macrocarpon (25%) growing between the stems. The ground is damp. Community Description: Small oval opening surrounded by tall Vaccinium corymbosum (85%) and Acer rubrum (15%). Lycopodium appressum and Vaccinium corymbosum are intertwined and creeping over the brown, damp, fine-textured moss that covers the sandy substrate. There is little evidence of sand deposition here, probably because of the protection afforded by the tall shrubs. No disturbance.
