Community Type: coastal plain pond
General Description: Coastal plain pond ("CPP") surrounded by pitch pine/black huckleberry-scrub oak upland. CPP has 4 basic vegetation zones: 1) Chamaedaphne border, 2) Panicum longifolium/sedge zone (50%), 3) open substrate/herbaceous zone, 4) Juncus effusus zone. The distinctive feature of this pond is the J. effusus zone. Some small sedges are present but many brown leaves.
Community Description: This zone occupies approximately 40% ofpond cover. Seems to be a hydrologic gradient with Polygonum longifolium to the upland edge grading to sedge towards the wetland edge. The sedge is abundant and unidentifiable and subdominant to the Panicum. Shallow standing water is present. The surrounding Chamaedaphne zone represents 15% of the pond and is 1-8m wide.
