1.5 miles south of Stillwater on the W side of Rt. 521 (Stillwater Rd.). Turn W onto Mallard Pond Rd. (dirt road into spring operation) and park at the pumping station facility. Follow old dirt roads to Shuster Pond and spring house. Head NW to Tucker Pond.

Environmental Comments: This zone is very homogenous. Carex squamosa always dominant.
Stoniness: very stony (15-50%)
Average Mineral Soil Texture: silty clay loam
Parent Material/Bedrock: Beekmantown-Lower
Landscape Description: The setting is a small glacial lake in a solution valley over Allentown Dolomite. There is a large forest buffer surrounding the pond. Surficial geology is stagnant ice in a solution sink. Karst features include an overland flow channel. Soil types and pH are silty clay, pH 7.0. Water fluctuates seasonally up to 10.17 feet.
