Landscape Description: Site is located in a mixed deciduous-evergreen forest with Castanea pumila and Magnolia. It is in the upper reaches of Deep Run, just east of Thundergut Wildlife Management Area. There is rolling topography and the ponds are at about 90' elevation, while Thundergut Run is at 50' and Cobbs Mill Lake, just to the south, is at 60' elevation. The region is predominantly forest, with homes scattered along roadsides, Cobbs Mill just to the S and a horse farm just N. Agricultural fields are scattered.

Community Type: coastal plain pond
Community Description: Elevated shore and central area dominated by Decodon verticillatus. There is a relatively abrupt increase in elevation (nearly 1' higher than in the adjacent zone). Ground cover beneath the Decodon varies with patches dominated by grasses and other patches dominated by Polygonum hydropiper.
Other species present but not in plot (in surrounding woods): Quercus phellos, Cypripedium sp., Lycopodium sp., Epigaea repens, Castanea pumila, Magnolia acuminata, Chimaphila maculata
