The site is 1.4 miles SE of Alloway. Take Alloway-Friesburg Rd. SE to Cobbs Mill Rd. Head S on Cobbs Mill Rd. 0.6 miles. Site is on the left.

Average Soil Texture: Mineral - silty clay loam
Landscape Description: Site is located in a mixed deciduous-evergreen forest with Castanea pumila and Magnolia. It is in the upper reaches of Deep Run, just east of Thundergut Wildlife Management Area. There is rolling topography and the ponds are at about 90' elevation, while Thundergut Run is at 50' and Cobbs Mill Lake, just to the south, is at 60' elevation. The region is predominantly forest, with homes scattered along roadsides, Cobbs Mill just to the S and a horse farm just N. Agricultural fields are scattered.

Community Type: coastal plain pond
Community Description: Central area of herbaceous zone dominated by Polygonum hydropiper, with patches of Leersia oryzoides, Decodon verticillatus, and Cuscuta sp. A sublayer of grass is mostly dried out. This area is alive with wasps, bees, flies and skippers on the Polygonum flowers. There is only a slight change in elevation in the transition to the Decodon zone.
