Patches of Cephalanthus and Clethra dot this zone. Very small slope (1-2 degrees). Sphagnum, Eleocharis and unknown grass seedlings grow throughout. Triadenum virginicum grows at the base of Decodon plants, on small hummocks. There is no standing water, but the soil appears moist. A few very shallow channels can be seen running into the surrounding woods. Closer to the shrub and tree zone, Sphagnum dominates the ground layer, covering nearly all the ground not occupied by Decodon. Fauna: marsh wren
