Observation Narrative
Community Type: coastal plain pond (Chamaedaphne calyculata pond edge community)
Community Description: Pondshore community dominated by Chamaedaphne calyculata, with significant amounts of Vaccinium corymbosum and Leucothoe racemosa. Carex striata var. brevis is scattered beneath / throughout. In areas of hummocky topography, shrubs are found growing on hummocks surrounded by standing water. At this time, much of the community is flooded, perhaps in part due to recent fire. There is as much as 10 cm of water in some spots. This shrub zone is continuous around the pond edge.
