Site is 0.6 miles N of the intersection of Rt. 40 and 47 in Malaga, on the right (E) side of the road, just N of the parking area for Malaga Lake.

Average Soil Texture: organic - muck; Von Post scale of peat decomposition: H8; pH of organic soil = 4.0 at 7.62 cm
Landscape Description: Sweetgum-oak-maple forest with some pine, surrounds the pond. The site is within a recreational and agricultural area, just north of central Malaga. The site is just E of Malaga Lake, a manmade lake formed by damming Scotland Run, the river that flows N to S about 500' from the survey site.

Community Type: coastal plain pond
Community Description: Central zone dominated by Polygonum caespitosum, currently inundated by 1-1.5' water. Juncus and scirpus are scattered or in clumps throughout. Ludwigia (growing in large patches) and Dulichium are found with Juncus. This area grades into surrounding zone with Cephalanthus (A2).
Additional species present but not found in plot: Sphagnum, Triadenum virginicum
NOTE: Cover estimates are very approximate as the water was very deep.
