Site is 0.6 miles N of the intersection of Rt. 40 and 47 in Malaga, on the right (E) side of the road, just N of the parking area for Malaga Lake.

Average Soil Texture: mineral - spongy silt loam; pH of mineral soil = 3.8 at 12.7 cm
Landscape Description: Sweetgum-oak-maple forest with some pine, surrounds the pond. The site is within a recreational and agricultural area, just north of central Malaga. The site is just E of Malaga Lake, a manmade lake formed by damming Scotland Run, the river that flows N to S about 500' from the survey site.

Community Type: coastal plain pond
Community Description: Upper shore of coastal plain pond dominated by Panicum verrucosum in full sun, and by Rhexia and Osmunda regalis in shade. A line of Acer rubrum divides some of this area from the open Cephalanthus area. Some tall heath shrubs grow on hummocks in this area, which extends 30-50' out from the Cephalanthus-dominated zone.
