Community Description: Plot is located in the rather, well-defined transition zone between mesic forest and swamp. Acer rubrum and Liquidambar dominate the tree strata in the upper zone. Fraxinus is present on broad hummocks where the ground abruptly becomes soggy. Shrub layers are poorly developed; the best developed is the tall shrub layer. Some deer browse is apparent on low shrubs. Herbaceous cover is thick and goes from the Chasmanthium laxum-dominated upper zone to the Carex-dominated lower zone.
