Community Type: coastal plain pond
Community Description: A pond surrounded by Atlantic White cedar. Open water dominates and supports some Sphagnum and very little herbaceous material. The narrow (0-3m) perimeter fringe is somewhat confluent with the cedar swamp and consists of Decodon verticillatus, Chamaedaphne calyculata, and tall shrubs. Decodon extends almost completely around the perimeter; Chamaedaphne less so. A few ATV tracks are present in the pond. Standing water is present uo to 5" deep. A crust of Sphagnum, now wet, is found throughout.
Other species present (along the perimeter fringe) but not in the plot: Chamaecyparis thyoides (100%), Vaccinium corymbosum (70%), Decodon verticillatus (70%), Chamaedaphne calyculata (50%), Carex striata, Photinia pyrifolia, Clethra alnifolia, Leucothoe racemosa, Rhododendron viscosum, Acer rubrum, Pinus rigida, Magnolia virginiana, Woodwardia areolata
