Landscape Narrative ? Soil Description: underlying substrate is sand and clay of the Lower Member. Landscape Description: 0.3-acre, pondshore community in a good quality, floristically diverse coastal plain intermittent pond, formerly a cranberry bog, surrounded by good quality deciduous forested wetlands. Coastal plain intermittent pond (former cranberry bog) in forest wetland that extends east. Panicum rigidulum var. pubescens – Dichanthelium sp. – Sphagnum sp. Herbaceous Vegetation dominates the northern upper zone of the pond. Rhexia virginica - Panicum verrucosum Herbaceous Vegetation dominates the central to upper zones of the pond (A2 through A4). A band of Cephalanthus occidentalis grows along the northern edge of the pond and a few shrubs are scattered in the center of the pond. A dense shrub and forested wetland zone (A1) surrounds the pond dominated by Acer rubrum, Nyssa sylvatica and Vaccinium corymbosum, with Quercus alba, Q. palustris, Liquidambar styraciflua, Pinus rigida, Smilax rotundifolia, Clethra alnifolia and Gaultheria procumbens. Route 527 is immediately west of the site, but forested wetlands extend east into Turkey Swamp.
