Rhexia virginica - Panicum verrucosum Herbaceous Vegetation dominates the central to middle zones of the pond (A1). The adjacent upper pondshore zone (A2) is dominated by Decodon verticillatus, with Panicum verrucosum, Cephalanthus occidentalis, Glyceria obtusa, Dulichium arundinaceum, Carex sp., Triadenum virginicum, Hypericum canadense, Rhynchospora fusca, Conyza canadensis, Juncus canadensis, Cuscuta sp. and Rhexia sp. The surrounding forested zone (A3) is dominated by Acer rubrum and Vaccinium corymbosum, with Clethra alnifolia, Nyssa sylvatica, Pinus rigida, Smilax rotundifolia, Rhododendron viscosum, Sphagnum sp., Panicum verrucosum, Magnolia virginica and Woodwardia virginica. Fire scars can be seen on the pine trunks with 8-24" diameter. Forested wetlands surround the site to the east and west, with mixed coniferous deciduous forest in surrounding uplands, as well as agricultural fields and residential zones.
