Community Type: pitch pine-reedgrass savanna
Community Description: There is a mosaic of pitch pine-reedgrass savanna (wet and dry types), pitch pine-reedgrass savanna/pitch pine-mixed heath lowland and pitch pine-mixed heath lowland community types around this plot, all with over 50% Calamovilfa brevipilis. Dominance of Calamovilfa brevipilis in a pitch pine-mixed heath lowland is surprising and unique to this site probably due to close association with pitch pine-reedgrass savanna and pitch pine-reedgrass savanna/pitch pine-mixed heath lowland within this mosaic, plus growing season fires in 1976 and earlier.
Other species present but not in observation area: Lobelia nuttallii
