Observation Narrative
Directions: about 3.0 km NW of the center of Hallwood. Note: this woodland is a linear feature which may follow a swale which is slightly lower that adjacent pine plantation.
A seasonally flooded woodland where drain-age is impeded by an impermeable clay layer a half meter down. This area was obviously logged some decades ago, but but reforestation is probably impeded by a seasonal inundation regime. I believe this community may resemble communities that existed in the area in pre-settlement and early post-settlement times when a nearby area (now pine plantation) was known as "savanna land" before 1775. In earlier times, fire together with seasonal flooding likely promoted a woodland physiognomy.
