Observation Narrative
Plot describes a portion of a distinctive 1/2 acre marsh located on the floodplain adjacent to upland slopes. I would characterize the vegetation as a seepage marsh. Indicative of groundwater seepage is Equisetum fluviatile, which is co-dominant throughout much of the marsh. I suspect that extra nutrients have entered the wetland from the adjacent agricultural fields, thereby allowing marsh plants, as opposed to fen or wet prairie plants, to flourish. The site appears to be flooded most of the year, though it was without water on this date. Phalaris arundinacea dominates the eastern portion of the wetland, presumably reflecting the absence of seepage influence here.
