Observation Narrative
Plot location: ca. 100 m S of Rt. 39 at a point 0.2 miles E of bridge over Mill Creek.
This site is a 20-acre wet meadow with a history of grazing, ditching, and periodic mowing. Nevertheless, the herbaceous vegetation over much of the meadow has affinities to that of wet prairies, and contains several state-rare plants favored by calcareous soils. The plot is situated in the wetter portion of the meadow, where sedges (particularly Carex emoryi) dominate. Drier portions are dominated seasonally by Danthonia spicata, Castilleja coccinea, Phlox carolina, and Liatris spicata.
