Directions to plot and tree tag:
Park on road in bend SE of 814 jct; navigate uphill ca. 35m to old trail; go 50m +/- W, SW on old trail (from large Robinia pseudoacacia). Large Betula IN trail (in sight of mowed fields). There may be two different trails, both below (N of) the plot. Tagged tree is a Betula alleghaniensis of 38 cm dbh with tag #307. Conduit is at a bearing of 292 degrees and 1.5 m from tree.
Plot location was pre-selected by the project's stratified random sampling design.
This stand seems generally more acidic than some, although some Fraxinus americana is present. Kalmia latifolia is dominant in about 20% of the plot. There is co-dominance by Betula alleghaniensis. Seems drier than some as well. Some moisture variability in the plot, upper side is generally more exposed and drier.
