Directions to plot and tree tag:
Take the Harkening Hill Trail for about 1.4km, then walk down the western slope about 100m to the tag tree. Tagged tree is a Quercus rubra of 51 cm dbh with tag #403. Conduit is at a bearing of 285 degrees and 5 m from tree.
Plot location was pre-selected by the project's stratified random sampling design.
This is a maturing oak forest with a thinning canopy because of gypsy moth herbivory. Gypsy moth egg cases and signs of feeding are abundant. The shrub layer is sparse, while the herb layer is very diverse and has considerable cover.
