Directions to plot and tree tag:
Tagged tree is a Q. montana in the middle of a large stand of Q. montana and Q. rubra. From Humpback Rocks visitor center parking lot, walk WSW about 0.3km over a small hill and down past greenstone rock outcroppings. As you head downslope, look for the tag tree. Tagged tree is a Quercus montana of 25 cm dbh with tag #304. Conduit is at a bearing of 140 degrees and 2 m from tree.
Plot location was pre-selected by the project's stratified random sampling design.
Dry chestnut oak - red oak forest over greenstone. A relatively high cover of Rhododendron periclymenoides is present, but not too many unusual species. Fairly recently disturbed, with abundant downed CWD (but somewhat small), numerous gaps, and very dense Rhododendron periclymenoides.
