Tagged tree is a Quercus rubra of 55cm dbh with tag# 394. Conduit is at a bearing of 265 degrees.
Directions to tag tree: Closest access is from plot 83.
Plot location was pre-selected by the project's stratified random sampling design.
Dry acidic slope with large and small boulders covering most of the surface area of the ground. Big trees, so probably not logged for at least 100-150 years - dry chestnut and red oak forest.
No mineral soil found - surficial substrate all rocks.

Perhaps fire-suppressed but still doing OK because rockiness creates lot of canopy gaps. Ailanthus is nearby, but this site may be too acidic for Ailanthus.
