Observation Narrative
Boulderfield dominated by Tilia and Fraxinus. Very large diameter Fraxinus and Tilia. Also canopy Quercus rubra, Carya ovata, Carya ovalis. Little or no low shrub cover, moderate tall shrub. Boulders with organic matter covering much of the rock and interstices. Dense herb layer mostly vining Parthenocissus quinquefolia and short Laportea canadensis. Old growth possibly.
This plot location was selected in the field by DNH Ecologists and capture a mature forest on a steep, rock slope.
Directions to plot and tree tag: From Humpback Gap Overlook Parking S on Parkway 0.4mi. to where cement ditch on L side of road ends. Just past this, find 60cm+ red oak on L edge of road. Go upslope 140 degrees to tagged ash with orange flagging. Tagged tree is a Fraxinus americana of 64 cm dbh with tag #438 . Conduit is at a bearing of 126 degrees and 3 m from tree.
