Directions to plot and tree tag:
Plot location was pre-selected by the project's stratified random sampling design.
Park near creek overlook and walk north until you see a ravine to the east. Walk up the ravine, then head southeast to the tagged tree. Tagged tree is a Quercus rubra of 40 cm dbh with tag #324. Conduit is at a bearing of 301 degrees and 2 m from tree.
This is an oak-pine forest with Quercus rubra and Pinus strobus having about equal importance. The shrub layer is sparse, with mostly Nyssa sylvatica. Ground cover is even more sparse, with scattered Vaccinium and two dense patches of Kalmia latifolia at the western end where the canopy is open.
