Directions to plot and tree tag:
Note : point displays on the wrong side of the stream when using a DRG. Point and plot are on the east side of stream and southeast side of Blue Ridge Parkway. The actual location was indicated manually. Tagged tree is a Pinus strobus of 96 cm dbh with tag #338. Conduit is at a bearing of 303 degrees and 8.3 m from tree.
Plot location was selected in the field by DNH Ecologists, targeting non-alluvial wetlands. Area suggested by Tom Wieboldt
Very nice but small seep influenced by the road and exotics on the edge, but plot is close to exotic free. Microstegium vimineum is the big problem.
Canopy height was not measured, but Pinus strobus appears to be an emergent canopy > 35 m over the main canopy of Acer rubrum that is less than 20 m. Other strata heights were not recorded, but entered as the maximum height. Percentage cover by stratum was not measured in the field, actual strata percentages and stratum cover classes for database entry were estimated by examining cover classes for individual species.
