Directions to plot and tree tag:
N on Parkway form Rocky Knob campground 0.8mi. to service road on R. Park just inside service rd.- go down slope at ~160 degrees, ~130m to flagged tree and conduit. Tagged tree is a Quercus montana of 47 cm dbh with tag # 439. Conduit is at a bearing of 44 degrees and 5 m from tree.
Plot location selected by DNH Ecologists in the field.
Slope dominated by chestnut oak and Kalmia with other oaks in the canopy. Little herb cover. Former chestnuts on site. Dense Kalmia with large diameter stems. Since Kalmia was so dense, a 20% subsample was measured for stem counts. Field count for Kalmia was multiplied by 5 for database entry.
