Observation Narrative
Plot location: 0.58 km SE of the main house at Roland Farm, 1.03 km SW of High Point Mtn. summit. Not permanently marked. Rock types present: quartzite boulders.
This plot is located in a gentle, middle-slope concavity filled with quartzite colluvium. Microtopography is irregular and very bouldery. Vegetation is a medium-aged mesophytic forest with mixed overstory dominance and a dense understory consisting largely of Asimina triloba clones. The bouldery substrate and dense shade cast by extensive Asimina thickets appear to limit the diversity and cover of herbaceous plants here. This stand was probably logged 80 to 100 years ago. Very minor gypsy moth defoliation, along with some damage to Cornus florida by anthracnose, was noted on the date of sampling.
