Observation Narrative
Plot location: rocky slope at foot of High Point Mtn. cliffs, 0.66 km SSW of the summit. Marked with a metal tree tag. See form/report for sketch. Rock types present: quartzite debris.
This plot captures a dry, rocky, Quercus montana and heath-dominated forest occupying a slope below the High Point Mountain cliffs. Charcoal fragments in soil samples indicate a history of fire at this site. Increment coring of representative oaks (including old stump sprouts) indicate a stand age of approximately 100 years.
