Observation Narrative ? Plot location: summit of ridge 1.08 km S of US Rt. 50 bridge over Little River at Aldie. Not permanently marked. No surface rocks present. The prevalence of stump sprouts among dominant Quercus montana in this scrubby, ridge-crest forest indicates that the stand probably regenerated from clear-cutting. The presence of Pinus rigida and large charcoal fragments also point to the influence of past fire. As is the case on many sub-level crests and benches of the Bull Run Mountains, Gaylussacia baccata is abundant in a low shrub layer.
