Observation Narrative
Moderately steep boulderfield forest. Canopy is Quercus rubra, Carya ovalis, C. cordiformis, and Tilia americana. Subcanopy is largely Tilia and Carya. Shrub layer is open. Herb/ground layer is dominated by vines - Parthenocissus quinquefolia, Toxicodendron radicans, dense Laportea and Rubus. Very bouldery, little soil, hard to navigate in sample. Very rocky soil. Very dense Toxicodendron radicans and Laportea canadensis.
Directions to plot: N on Ewing (AKA Civic Park) Trail to large switchback at 2600 ft. contour. Plot is approx. 0.6 mi. West. Large boulderfield. Tree is on west side of boulder field on convexity. Tag is in base of tree. Conduit loosely wedged between boulder, no soil. Orange flagging on tree. Tagged tree is a Quercus prinus of 83 cm dbh with tag #165. Conduit is at a bearing of 126 degrees and 14 m from the tree.
