Vegetation is on a very rocky south facing slope with an open canopy of large Carya ovata, Quercus rubra, Quercus alba, Fraxinus americana and Juglans nigra. A. 4 m tall subcanopy of Cercis canadensis and Ulmus rubra. Herb cover is diverse with Salvia urticifolia and Helianthus hirsutus. Could represent CEGL008458. Circumneutral indicators include Juglans nigra, Cercis canadensis, Ulmus rubra, Salvia urticifolia, Pellaea atropurpurea, Celtis occidentalis, Juniperus virginiana, Arabis canadensis, Triosteum perfoliatum.
Other diagnostic species of this association (beyond circumneutral indicators listed above) are Helianthus hirsutus, Solidago ulmifolia, Dichanthelium boscii, Helianthus microcephalus, Frangula carolina, Fraxinus americana, Carya ovata, Polymnia canadensis (outside sample).
Directions to plot: Ewing (AKA Civic) trail north from Park boundary about 0.3 mi. to where trail takes 1st abrupt turn to the east. From here the plot is about 0.10 mi. in a N-NE direction. Tagged tree is a Quercus rubra of 80 cm dbh with tag #147. Conduit is at a bearing of 208 degrees and 15.2 m from the tree. Tree tagged as #147 is a large red oak on east facing slope. Conduit is by an old telephone pole. A second tree is tagged as #150, 24 degrees and 10 m to telephone pole and conduit from this tree. Tree #150 is a ~70 cm dbh Q. rubra.
