Observation Narrative
Steep slope forest in larger cove. Large Quercus rubra with many stems of Carya ovalis. Scattered Liriodendron tulipifera and Acer rubrum. Very open shrub stratum. Very tall, lush herb stratum. Large limestone/conglomerate boulders in vicinity. Small trees mostly Carya ovalis with some Cercis, Liriodendron, and Sassafras. Herb strata with no clear dominant, but high cover by Cimicifuga racemosa, Verbesina alternifolia, Rubus, and Dichanthelium boscii.
Directions to plot: Civic Park (Ewing) trail N to major switchback around 2700 ft. contour. A rock bench is located at the switchback. Contour east and then NE from "bench" at switchback. Conduit is east of large boulders and at the base of boulder with Quercus prinus and Q. rubra (160) at base. Tagged tree is a Quercus rubra of 55 cm dbh with tag #160. Conduit is at a bearing 0f 150 degrees and 2 m for tree.
