Observation Narrative
This tidal marsh vegetation, situated ca. 25 cm lower in elevation than a nearby Taxodium distichum swamp, is dominated by perennial and annual hydrophytic forbs. The vegetation is somewhat less than a meter tall, though scattered Zizania aquatica plants rise much higher. Percent cover estimates were particularly difficult to determine because some species were senescent and others (e.g., Polygonum arifolium) were climbing over and through other species.
Plot located on north shore of the Chickahominy River, 0.5 mi southwest of the junction of Rt. 627 and railroad tracks.
