Observation Narrative
The habitat is one of the largest (5+ acres) fresh interdune ponds on Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. The plot represents a localized marginal zone in which Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani dominates in a nearly pure stand. This community type was not found elsewhere on the Refuge; it occurs in small patches in fresh to oligohaline marshes elsewhere in Virginia. Green tree frogs (Hyla cinerea) were abundant here on the date of sampling.
Plot located just off east shore of large, elongate interdune pond, ca. 1.0 mi southeast of Cherrytree Hill.
