Observation Narrative
A fresh interdune pond ca. 1 acre in size located among eroded, sheltered back dunes southeast of Ragged Point. The plot represents a marginal zone in which Cladium mariscoides dominates in a nearly pure stand. This is a rare community type of Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, but occurs in at least one other seasonal pond. It is also relatively rare elsewhere on the Virginia Coastal Plain.
Plot located in eastern end of pond, ca. 0.9 mi southeast of Cherrytree Hill.
