Observation Narrative
The plot is located near the limit of tidal influence at the upland edge of an extensive salt marsh complex. Groundwater inputs here may contribute to oligohaline conditions. In this zone Eleocharis rostellata forms dense, nearly monotypic stands (as represented by this plot) and also occurs within other community types. Scattered, stunted Iva frutescens scarcely 0.5 m tall is a typical associate of the "pure" Eleocharis rostellata type.
