Observation Narrative ? An example of Spartina alterniflora "low salt marsh" occupying a slightly depressed mud flat bordering a tidal creek. Stressful substrate and hydrologic conditions, as well as occasional grazing, may contribute to the low stature (20-30 cm tall) and incomplete cover (60-70%) of S. alterniflora in this habitat. Plot located on mud flat on west shore of Virginia Creek, ca. 0.1 mi north of Service Road and Old Fields Impoundment Dike.
