Observation Narrative ? A variant of Ammophila breviligulata vegetation occupying the middle, ocean-facing slope of a steep frontal dune in the central part of Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. In this variant Panicum amarum var. amarum is co-dominant (or even dominant) with Ammophila. Total cover is in the 40-60% range, but all of the grasses are half-buried by the constantly blowing and shifting sand. Plot located on eastern side of frontal dune, east of North Wash Flats Impoundment at a point 2.6 mi NNE of D Pool Dike.
