Observation Narrative
The plot is located on the steep, forested, north-facing slope of a bayside dune ridge. The tree canopy here consists of tall, mature Pinus taeda, with Quercus falcata occurring in subcanopy layers. Dense vine thickets and tangles characterize both the shrub and herbaceous layers. A moisture gradient occurs within the plot, from well drained soils on the steep slope to somewhat poorly drained soils at the base. See plot sketch on original plot form for more information.
Slope averages 19 degrees (slope: 34, toe:4).
North slope and toe of steep dune ridge, ca. 0.25 mi ENE of lighthouse.
