Observation Narrative
The vegetation in this plot occupies a narrow, elongate zone along the uppermost southeast-facing slope and crest of the White Hills dune ridge. It is characterized by somewhat closed stands of 10-15 m tall Pinus taeda with thin cover of several grasses, particularly Ammophila breviligulata, Schizachyrium littorale and Panicum virgatum in varying proportions. This community grades sharply into the more open and stunted Pinus taeda / Hudsonia tomentosa woodland characteristic of the lower, more unstable slopes of the White Hills dune.
Plot located near crest of the highest White Hills dune ca. 0.6 mi southeast of the confluence of Janeys Creek and Assateague Channel.
