Observation Narrative
Plot is located on a very steep, north facing cliff and talus complex on bluff bordering a swift section of the Shenandoah River, 0.9 mi south of the junction of Rtes. 617 and 621. A large cave is situated nearby. Microhabitats here consist of mainly of humus filled and mossy crevices of the boulderfields, crevices of sheer dolomitic cliff faces and small, shallow soiled ledges. Some very large trees (e.g., Liriodendron 75-80 cm dbh) are scattered on the slope, but trees here are subject to frequent windthrows because of the unstable substrate.
